Rainbow Communications (Mike Owen) - Portfolio

I am a Certified Internet Marketing Specialist, having received a Certificate in Internet Marketing and Business Strategy (CIMBS) from the International Internet Marketing Association (IIMA in 2004, combined with a Certificate in Business Marketing (CBM) from the University of Calgary. I have been involved in Account Management and both conventional and online marketing for over 20 years. I have been involved in various areas of Internet Marketing, through my own company, for 13+ years.

My specific area of speciality of Internet Marketing is Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO), as well as having a strong background and knowledge of Paid Search Engine Marketing (SEM), and utilizing Web Analytics to analyse marketing success (ROI), user behavior, and to improve the over-all user experience.

I am open to both short and long-term projects, focusing on metrics (analytics), usability and SEO. I enjoy launching new sites as well as over-hauling non-performing existing ones. My hourly rate varies based on my interest in the project, as well as the scope and complexity, but generally is between $45-$75/hour.

I also have several years of experience deploying and customizing scalable CMS and PHP solutions. This includes: OsCommerce, Drupal, PostNuke, PhpNuke, Esyndicat and Wordpress. Whether you are looking to write a blog, start a Web2.0 community, or add a shopping cart to your site, I can deploy the right solution for your needs.

400+ Dog Food and Treat Recipes
HomeDogTreats.com
Home Dog Treats (Launched 04/2008) Marketing a recipe and nutritional e-book package for dog owners. I designed and produced the site in under a day using images acquired from iStockPhoto and basic HTML and CSS. The text on all pages is packed with keywords and optimized for the major Search Engines. This domain has no history or existing traffic, so I will be carefully documenting traffic and conversions as I begin the marketing process. Between organic SEO, link-building, some paid search, and a clickbank affiliate program, I expect traffic to grow quickly.
Online Pet Supply Shopping Mall
eShopForPets.com
eShopForPets (Launched 03/2008) is a virtual shopping mall for pet-related supplies, books, etc. The front-end is powered by PHP and the entire back-end is provided by Amazon.com's Web Services. Similarly powered stores have been added to QueerSeek, ChristSeek and ForSaleInCanada. This site was put together and configured in just over an hour. A sitemap was submitted to Google & Yahoo on Mar 27th and we'll see how long it takes to get listed.
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexuala nd Transgendered Web Portal
QueerSeek.com
QueerSeek (since 1999) began as a small collection of links on my hard-drive and 8 years later is one of the largest non-adult GLBT directories on the web... mainly because most others have long since shut down. Powered by PHP/MySQL, QS continues to be the site I play with the most, trying new features and testing software mod's and updates. Revenue is derived by both paid listings, as well as GoogleAds. You can see a sample of an earlier version of this site towards the bottom of this page.
Directory for the Vancouver Coast Region of BC, Canada
VancouverCoast.com
VancouverCoast (Launched 11/2007) is a visitor resource directory for the Vancouver Coast Region of British Columbia, including Vancouver Island. With the Olympics coming in 2010 I decided to try and fill a hole left by the sale of Vancouver.com, which no longer seems to contain anything other than advertising. The site is powered by the same software as QueerSeek and ForSaleInCanada. I have created templates and customized the script to meet the needs of each site.
News, Views and Muse about Vancouver and the Coast Region
VancouverCoast.com/Blog
VancouverCoast Blog (Launched 02/08) is a great example of a remotely-hosted version of WordPress blog software. I launched this blog to provide both information about Vancouver, Whistler and the coming Olympics, but to also give the hungry search engines dynamic and keyword filled content to chew on :) Articles are legally provided from a variety of sources. The source is noted at the bottom of each post.
Christian Web Directory and Scripture Search
ChristSeek.com
I originally designed and built ChristSeek (Launched 05/2004) for a client in Edmonton. Unfortunately they did not feel like paying their bill, or accepting the finished product, so I decided to keep it (it's currently for sale). The most interesting part was scripting and perfecting the online scripture search tools. The text files are quite large but the speed at which results are delivered is amazing. Give it a try! Try a simple term like "Jacob". While not exactly my cup of tea, it's a fun site to play with.
Generic Meta-Search Tool
ShowMeLinks.com
ShowMeLinks (Launched 03/05) is a meta-search tool. It takes your query and searches several large directories and search engines and returns results based on relevancy. I didn't write the script, but I've modified it and created the design. It's really just a venue for delivering GoogleAds and links to my other sites.
Canadian Business and Shopping Directory
ForSaleInCanada.com
ForSaleInCanada (Acquired 05/2004) has gone through several revisions since I purchased the domain in 2004, including a real estate directory and classified ads. It's current incarnation as a Canadian Business and Shopping Directory first appeared in 2006 and has been a success as far as traffic and clients paying to get listed. Powered by the same core software as QueerSeek and VancouverCoast.
What's Next? Stay Tuned (Launching 00/00) I'm sure there will other new sites as I dream up new ideas and start taking on external projects!

Here are a few screen captures I found on my hard drive of older designs and sites no longer active:
QueerAd PPC Network
QueerAd.com (2004 - 2006)
QueerAd.com CPC Advertising Network
QueerAd was a "Adwords-style" contextual cost-per-click service which targeted only the Gay and Lesbian community. Originally launched to only deliver ads to my own network of sites, in 2005 I opened it to outside advertisers and affiliates. During 2006 the network displayed an amazing 38 Million Ads!

Unfortunately at the same time Google Adwords and Adsense was taking off and I was quickly losing affiliates to Google. I was also in a battle with credit card processors who, for whatever reason(s), equated "gay" to mean "porn" and suddenly my advertisers had no way to pay me.

Due to a lack of time to keep the service viable I made the decision to shut it down in early 2007.
ChristSeek circa 2004
ChristSeek (2004)
ForSaleInCanada circa 2004
ForSaleInCanada (2004)
QueerSeek circa 2004
QueerSeek (2003)
SubmitZone SE Submission Service (2004)
SubmitZone SE Submissions (sold 2004)
SexHunterUSA.com
SexHunterUSA.com (2004-06)
That's it for the trip down memory lane. There are dozens of more sites, but sadly I didn't keep screen captures so their designs are forever lost somewhere in cyberspace.
